TRIBUTE TO MIKE BIBBY.. THE KING I'LL NEVER FORGET..

i knew this was coming but i never knew it could hurt this bad.. real bad..

i am crying my eyes out right now.. and i cried even more after reading these THANK-YOU's from his fans @ KINGSFANS.COM:

VF21 02-16-2008 01:12 PM

Thank you, Mike Bibby!!!
A new blog entry has been added:

Thank you, Mike Bibby!!!

And the final piece is laid to rest...

If the rumors are true, and it appears more and more likely they are, then the trade of Mike Bibby to Atlanta marks the final page in the chapter of the book of "THE TEAM."

It's the end of looking back, fellow Kings fans, and it's the beginning of truly looking forward. And it's scary and exciting at the same time.

I have so many good memories of Mike Bibby and what he helped do for our Kings. Yes, there were times when I was less than happy, but there are those times no matter who it is or what they're doing.

Mike Bibby - and the crab walk - will not soon be forgotten by this Kings fan. Mike Bibby and his ice cold accuracy during Laker games will be the stuff legends are someday made of. Mike Bibby and his cuticle clipping will bring a smile to our faces when we speak again of these days - and we will.

And if he steps onto the court of Arco on Feb. 20 in the uniform of the Atlanta Hawks, I KNOW he will receive the standing ovation from the Kings fan faithful.

Thank you, Mike, for the excitement and the fun. I wish you all the luck in the world. Thanks most of all for being part of the team that literally took my breath away.

GOOD LUCK!!!
icp3425 02-16-2008 01:13 PM

Thanks for everything mike, good luck.
SacKings384 02-16-2008 01:14 PM

This is very upsetting... I would have loved for Mike Bibby to go to a better team... I'm glad Petrie got off his hands, but I want Bibby to win one. He deserves it.
creAtivetfh 02-16-2008 01:14 PM

you were awesome Mike. Good luck in the ATL

Cleveland clearly wants LeBron to walk
piksi 02-16-2008 01:22 PM

Well, the book is finally closed and it might not be the greatest ever written but it was special. while I never was a big Bibby fan because of his one way basketball - I am grateful for his contributions that have been very significant in writing our finest chapter. I wish him all the best and hope that he continues to fill up the Lakers no matter where he plays.

It was time.
Vlade4GM 02-16-2008 01:30 PM

He's going to be successful in Atlanta, I know it. He fits that team like a glove. I wish him the best and I hope he makes Phoenix's pick really crappy :D

Yea I didn't really think of it from that pov; that team is gone now, no one left :( I wish we at least still had Rick, but that's history.
Merdiesel 02-16-2008 01:31 PM

Thanks for all the wins Mike... You'll always be a King in my book!
Elise10 02-16-2008 01:40 PM

I'm literally in tears as if I really knew Mike Bibby..so sad.

Well, it's hard to imagine that #10 of the Kings will no longer have Bibby on the back. You've made so many game-winning shots it's legendary. I'll miss those. Then again that's what YouTube is for, to keep replaying those moments. I was a Kings fan a little bit before Mike came, became a better one because Mike was traded here, and now will still continue to be one in spite of Mike's departure.

Everyone is gone, a new chapter begins in Atlanta(where I pray, keep your boys out the numerous clubs, please!).

Here's to starting over

Peace!
Jechtsphere 02-16-2008 01:49 PM

It was a great run mike and I enjoyed watching you, I was pumped when we traded for you and you didn't dissapoint, you were a great King and like all other Kings you will be remembered and cheered when you come back to Arco.
NikateeN 02-16-2008 01:52 PM

Some serious serious thanks Mike, the good times were good, the bad times were bad, but in the end it was all worth it, good luck.
G_M 02-16-2008 01:54 PM

I was lucky enough to be at Game 5 when Bibby hit that shot against the Lakers.  One of the best sports memories in my life!!!

Thanks-MB!!
Löwenherz 02-16-2008 01:54 PM

I'll never forget the impromptu hugs and cheers with strangers and co-workers after standing huddled around an old scratchy radio listening to Bibby's winning shot over the Lakers in game 5 of the 2001-02 WCF.

Bibby/Christie/Peja/Webber/Vlade - The team to which all future Kings will be compared.

Thanks for helping lead us to our Golden Era, Mike.
Capt. Factorial 02-16-2008 01:59 PM

I still remember the day I came home and the first thing my roommate said to me was "We traded Jason Williams." I was immediately disappointed that we had traded away a young, flashy PG with potential, even if he was turnover-prone and not the greatest shooter. "Who'd we get?" I asked. "Somebody named Mike Bibby." (My roommate followed the Kings, but basketball in general.)

My disappointment in trading Jason Williams officially lasted about 5 seconds. Clearly we had gotten the better half of the deal.

It's too bad that I can't say the same here. Trading for Mike Bibby was a coup for our team. Trading him away was nothing more than a business move with an eye toward improving in the future. I guess that's the way it goes.

So long, Mike. You did well by the franchise and the fans, and though you never won a championship here (thanks to Robert Horry and Webber's knee), you were the floor general for the best team in the NBA not once but for two different seasons. I wish you the best in Atlanta and beyond.
Twix 02-16-2008 02:07 PM

Good luck in Atlanta, Mike! I know you'll do well there. I'm glad you were with the Kings at some of the best moments. Thank you for making some of those moments memorable. :)
LPKingsFan 02-16-2008 02:12 PM

Mike Bibby was my favorite King. Having grown up the son of an Arizona alum, I immediately became a fan when he and Miles Simon led the Wildcats to a national title in the mid 90s. While I was a big fan of J-Will, when I heard that the Kings had swapped him for Bibby, I was ecstatic. More than almost any other, that move propelled the Kings from exciting young team with potential to a championship contender.

I will never forget the shot from Game 5. To me, that has been the peak so far as a Kings fan. Bibby's clutch play and cool mentality would have made him the Finals MVP that year. If not for Robert Horry, and a sorry show of referring and free throw composure. Then the knee injury in Dallas happened, and the Kings were never the same.

While many thought the Webber trade passed the reigns on to Peja, I secretly hoped for the team to become Bibby's. I hoped he'd be able to channel his leadership from the Arizona days and become the superstar I'd always hoped him to become. Turns out he just wasn't that type of player. He thrived when he could work off a dominant big man, but he wasn't the guy who could carry a team on his back. As the team makes its moves with an eye for the future, it was clear he had to go. I'm sorry to see it, but it needed to happen. I'll miss him, and wish him well. He, Mitch, and C-Webb are the only Kings jerseys I own, and it will likely remain that way.

Ditto that.

Good luck, Mike.
DocHolliday 02-16-2008 02:13 PM

Thanks Mike. I hope your memories of being a member of the Sacramento Kings will be as fond as the one's that we the fans will have of the time during your tenure with the Kings.

I think if this story were to be written it would start with:

It was the best of times, and the worst of times.

I wish you luck with your new team. Thanks for the memories.
OptimusRhyme 02-16-2008 02:16 PM

Thanks Mike! The memories are good..:D
6th 02-16-2008 02:20 PM

Thanks, Mike Bibby, for being such an important part of the best era the Sacramento Kings' fans have seen.

You are special and I'll miss you.  Good luck to you and your family.
Wuster 02-16-2008 02:26 PM

THANKS Mike Bibby for giving all the Kings fans so much enjoyment over the years. What a great run its been. Best of luck in ATL. I hope to see the Hawks contend one day and you be a part of it.

You will not be forgotten.
VF21 02-16-2008 02:33 PM

NOTE: Just like every other time a player has been traded, THIS THREAD is to thank him for being a King and share GOOD memories. Comments that vary from that purpose are going to be either moved or deleted. Period.

You know what? Look at the team he is going to. You don't think Bibby makes them a contender (in the east?) Well he does. I think the Hawks finish above .500 and win a playoff series.

THANK YOU MIKE FOR EVERYTHING, EVERY CLUTCH SHOT, EVERY TIME YOU OWNED THE LAKERS.

You will always be one of my favorite players.
Bibby's Tattoo's 02-16-2008 02:46 PM

Thank You Mike for all those clutch shots.  Good Luck to you in Atlanta!
coolhandluke 02-16-2008 02:47 PM

Mike,

Thanks for everything you did to make the Kings a legitimate championship contender in the glory days with your incredible clutch play.

A special thank you for embarrassing the Lakers time and again. :D

Simran2214 02-16-2008 02:49 PM

Mike Bibby, I cannot thank you enough for everything you did for the Sacramento Kings. You will continue to be one of my favorite players anywhere you go. Best of luck, we will definately miss you!

I am going to miss this man.
Londonking 02-16-2008 03:19 PM

Thanks Mike

You were one of the key elements of exciting Kings basketball which drew me to root for this team. Im going to miss you. You certainly hit the clutch jumper with time expiring to pull games out of the hat.

C Diddy 02-16-2008 04:29 PM

Best of luck Mike! Thank you for the memories. I hope you find success in Atlanta and a strong playoff run this year.
Circa_1985_Fan 02-16-2008 04:33 PM

Mike, I cant thank you enough for giving me one of my most exciting moments in my life. Game 5 was like a dream when you hit that shot! Unfortunately Game 6 when your nose hit Kobe's elbow, that was a nightmare. Thank you so much for the excitment you provided since you got here in 2001! I wish you nothing but the best...we'll see you again when we retire your jersey in the Arco rafters.:)
Andriod_KiNg 02-16-2008 04:34 PM

Tmassfan4life 02-16-2008 05:31 PM

"The Team" has been over for some time now, but this is truly the end of an era. Crazy memories.....

With a tear in my eye, I bid you a fond farewell. I will truly miss you Mike. Good luck in Atlanta.
91sickness 02-16-2008 06:18 PM

Wow...talk about bitter sweet. On the business side and for the betterment of the franchise it was the right move. But from the heart of a fan it sucks...bad. The leader of this team that we all grew to love and watch become a star in this league is gone. I absolutely wish him the best and cannot wait to see his number high in the arco rafters!! he definitely deserves it!!! Good luck Mike, you made me fan I am today!!!
Cal-Kings 02-16-2008 06:35 PM

Thank you, Mike!  We'll never forget you and what you've done here.

I'll be watching you in Atlanta on NBA League Pass.  Good luck!

I guess it was a no brainer that you would be relocating, Good Luck in Atlanta, make the Hawks a playoff contender, sometimes a change of scenery is a good thing..
LMM 02-16-2008 07:18 PM

I don't know what to say. I knew it was coming but still wasn't prepared for it. Deep in my heart, I guess I was still hoping it wouldn't happen... I was at work when I found out and I couldn't help but cry. I love Mike Bibby and I'm really sad to see him go. Nonetheless, I will continue to support the Kings... along with Atlanta and Golden State now, I guess.

Good luck to you, Mike. Thank you SO MUCH for everything. I wish you all the success and happiness in Atlanta.

The next thing to do is sell out Arco Arena February 20th and give Bibby a one minute standing ovation.

Thanks for the memories, Mike. Hope to see your jersey in the rafters someday.

Thank you Mike for all the great memories you left us with. All the daggers you nailed for us.

....And most importantly....thank you for giving us the opportunity to yell "booyakasha!!" to all the Laker fans whenever we played them.

Of all your teammates that got traded from that wonderful team, I think that you leave playing better ball than any of them. Too bad your remaining years won't be with us. Thank you for everything that you've given Kings Fans. I salute you!
kennadog 02-17-2008 12:28 AM

Even though I knew it was time, it still hurts. All of them....gone. What a great time it was, though! Bibby's clutch shot in Game 5, will always be remembered by me as one of the most deliriously happy and exciting moments I've ever had as a sports fan. Thank you, thank you and thank you again, Mike Bibby! :D

All good things do come to an end, if only to make way for new dreams. I hope you find new dreams in your future, Mike. The best to you and your family. :)
rings4Kings 02-17-2008 12:40 AM

I hope you are directed to this site so you can truly see how much you meant to so many people. On behalf of myself, and my family (and our dog [Bibbs]), you will be missed... GOOD LUCK!!!

Thank you and best of luck for your future!
dime dropper 02-17-2008 08:09 AM

Thank you Mike, for everything. You will continue to be one of my favourite players, and my favourite outside of Sacramento. Although I think the timing of a trade is right, I'm extremely disappointed to see you leave. And not just because you were part of that team, but because you gave everything for this team while you were here and enjoyed every minute of it. You deserve a championship and I hope you get it. You'll be a great mentor to an exciting young team and I hope you enjoy your time there. I'll never forget all the memories. Mike, I really will miss you. Best of luck, all the way from Ireland!
Lurknomo 02-17-2008 09:01 AM

Thanks Mike. The memories of the great Kings teams of the early 2000's will stay with me forever.
But so will the thoughts of you being an *** at Natomas Youth Baseball games withyour cell phone planted in your ear, wearing your Kings shorts, standing alone down the foulline with team dime "protecting" you from all those young players that just wanted you to be a little more cool and accessable.
NothinButHoops 02-17-2008 09:06 AM

Best of luck to you Mike Bibby...you will always be a KING in our hearts.
The memories & the excietment you brought on game day gave SacTown fans something to beleive in....I will miss you energy & your Heart!
bloom 02-17-2008 11:23 AM

Thanks and good luck Mike. The Glory Years were great and thanks for those memories.

Before you leave, you really need to shave your hair. The hair is stopping you from being the Mike we knew. Shave it off cause you’re better without it.
Elektrik 02-17-2008 11:32 AM

I have mixed feelings over Mike leaving. On one hand I am glad that he is going because his salary was too much for this team to have much of a future. Mike was not part of the future, as clutch as he is. He is part of our history and a big part of the best of our history. For that I will always be grateful. I am glad that he is going to an up and coming team that the future is now. His leadership and clutch shooting ability will help a young team. A new start will help him. His leaving will help us rebuild and regain our rightful place among the elite teams. I also wanted to say that I had come into contact with Mike in the last several months on a pretty regular basis and he has always been nothing but nice, polite and friendly to myself. I wish him nothing but the best for him and his family. Good luck Mike. You will always be a King.
Showtime 02-17-2008 01:17 PM

I don't know of any other fanbase that gets as attached to players as Kings fans. When Bobby and Peja come to town, they get cheers. When Hedo and Gerald show up, they get some noise. Now, Mike will be back next week with the Hawks as they come into ARCO, so if you are at the game, please cheer. It's sad to see Mike go, even know I know it was best for the future of the team, but Mike leaves with all of his past accomplishments with him. He was the last player from the WCF team in 02, and when he goes, they go. Fans still want to hang on to those memories, so here's hoping Martin and co. can create new good ones for the fans next season.
C4 02-17-2008 02:25 PM

It's like when CWebb was traded all over again...my feelings that is....

What i want to say, VF21 captured with her opening post....

Thanks Mike Bibby.... To Me YOU will ALWAYS be a Sacramento KING!

Even though there were changes that had to be made, it's sad to see that I wont ever see Mike Bibby in a Kings uniform again. He has done so much for this franchise and is easily one of the most clutch Kings in franchise history. Thank you Mike, you had me at Game 6.

bperiod 02-18-2008 08:53 AM

Wow..never thought it would happen. My son is your biggest fan, last year he had to bury his hamster named...you guessed it "Mike Bibby" ;) Now this. He has 4 different jersey's, joined your fan club and always talks about how great you are "which is tough being we're in SoCal" We are Kings fans first..but I have already gotten the request from my devoted 6th grade Bibby fan for an Atlanta jersey to show respect. lol....I wish we could be there Wed...we will be watching on TV somewhere. Thanks Mike for everything.. especially the below pictures. That was the greatest night of his young life. Flew up to Sac to see the Kings vs Orlando. Kings win, season career high 42 pts (at the time) AND stopped to sign as we waited in the freezing cold (as Peja and many others drove right by the 3 kids standing waiting for their idols) He will never forget that. I really believe folks will be surprised at how much you actually have left with some good talent around you. Don't sleep...Atlanta WILL make the playoffs with MB now!
Good luck!

bperiod 02-18-2008 10:11 AM

Anybody coming up with one of those great "Goodbye videos" like there was posted for Chris when he left? Just wondering...
BMiller52 02-19-2008 12:14 AM

Oh man my computer was broken and I actually found out about this on ESPN but I have been wanting to come on here and say bye to Bibby. He was always one of my favorite Kings players(after Webber) and I definitely appreciate his contributions to the franchise. He did a lot of things for the Kings like hit clutch shots, play through injuries, be cool with the fans(like the story above), and he was the heart and soul of the team back when we were a contender IMO(Chris was the best player but Mike was the clutch guy and the heart of the team IMO). It sucks to see him go even though it sort of had to be done. I really appreciate what he's done for this team, I'm glad I was able to see him play in person, and I wish him nothing but the best in Atlanta. I hope he's playing in the playoffs this year though, atleast 1 of my favorite Kings will be in the playoffs this year.

Good luck to Mike and thanks for everything you've done.
gunks 02-19-2008 02:11 PM

I'm gonna hit up youtube for Bibby highlight vids and cry.

Good luck Bibby!  Thanks for everything!

...And so the rebuild finally begins in earnest

My fav King since Chris Webber left it in 05! damn so many memories arise, he was the only player left from that marvelous Glory Team! now that's all gone, that's sad but anyway I wish him only best of luck in ATL, I'll be watching the hawks more from now

Mike,

Thanks for all the fun! You have given me some of my all-time favorite Kings memories. You were always fun to watch play live and on TV.

Good luck with the rest of your career; may success follow you.

thanks for all the memories mike!

aww now i have to retire my bibby jersey :(
kennadog 02-19-2008 11:42 PM

After watching the Bibby video during halftime tonight (yes, I cried) I just had to come in and say thank to Mike Bibby one more time.

I always liked the remark Petrie made after the Webber trade and I think it applies to all members of "that" team. They are all gone now, but the "memories remain the property of the Sacramento Kings." And I'd add, property of their fans, too. I wouldn't want to have missed any of it.
